Who We Are

The Leicestershire and Rutland Branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association was established in 1986 by a small group of people who wanted to improve local support for families affected by the disease, increase awareness of their needs within the community and raise money to fund research in the hope of finding a cure for MND. We are also committed to supporting the MND Association’s national care, research and campaigning initiatives.

The branch is run entirely by volunteers who have all had some level of personal or professional experience of MND. Supported by the Association’s regional team, we work closely with local health and social care practitioners to ensure people living with MND in our area receive the best possible care and support. The branch also helps to provide training for professional staff and volunteers in the region by disseminating best practice and raising awareness of the particular needs of people with MND.

From its earliest days the Branch has attracted the loyal support of many local people, businesses and organisations that have helped raise the funds we need to continue our work in the community. We are also proud that the quality of welfare support provided by our branch’s team of trained volunteer visitors has not only earned the respect of those working within the local health and social care professions but has been recognised by the MND Association as an example of good practice.

We warmly welcome new members and are always pleased to hear from people who may be able to help the Branch with its ongoing work in the community.
